Seen from a ridge, the stones hold the fields in a vast, uneven circle. Up close, each is a weathered presence at the edge of someone’s ordinary work. At dusk, the hum makes that familiar boundary feel much less local.

Touch a stone and it is yours; from then on any waystone carries you to any other you own, once a day per stone. The Legion has tried for a century and been refused.
